A new report which highlights the 2019 regional supply chain to the forestry sector has been released by the BC Council of Forest Industries.
Commissioned by COFI in early 2020, the 2019 Regional Supply Chain Study assesses the overarching economic and social benefits flowing from the B.C. forest industry supply chain to communities throughout the province. The study analyzed the 2019 supply chain spend and reach of 19 COFI member companies.
The report found Prince George is home to the largest number of suppliers in British Columbia, with 970 local firms supplying the industry. It also found the industry spent $718 million on supplies and services that were sourced from Prince George, which was second only to the Vancouver spend of $978 million.
Although the repercussions from the pandemic are not part of this study, it illustrates that the forest resource industry and related suppliers are a vital piece of the BC economy and doing well despite the recent downturns in the industry.
